1Make it obvious
The cue must be visible. Use an implementation intention ("I will [behavior] at [time] in [location]") and habit stacking ("After [current habit], I will [new habit]").
Break a habit: make it invisible β remove the cues from your environment.
2Make it attractive
Pair what you need to do with what you want to do (temptation bundling). Join a culture where your desired behavior is normal.
Break a habit: make it unattractive β name its real cost.
3Make it easy
Reduce friction. Use the Two-Minute Rule β start with a version that takes under two minutes. Repetitions matter more than time spent.
Break a habit: make it difficult β add friction, use a commitment device.
4Make it satisfying
What is rewarded is repeated. Track progress, don't break the chain, and never miss twice.
Break a habit: make it unsatisfying β get an accountability partner.
